Single parent Essay Example
Single parent Essay Example Single parent Essay Single parent Essay My name is Melissa and Im a single parent to a wonderful little boy. I call my son my miracle baby because I had half an ovary removed and a bunch of other problems and was told I may never have children. My son meaner everything to me and I would do anything for him. I decided to go back to school to make a better life for my son and show him that if you put your mind to it, anything is possible no matter what your age is. When I first seen my son on the monitor I know my life would never be the same. I watched my son grow from a peanut into a baby in my arms and nothing can beat that feeling. Hearing his little heart beat for the first time and knowing that he was safe and healthy is the only thing I could have asked for. I knew there were going to be ups and downs and there was going to be bumps in the way, but nothing prepared me for doing it alone. Going from being Just yourself and single, able to go out and have fun and party all night, to being responsible for someone else. I become someone elses protector and caregiver and it can be scary perpetually when its a surprise. I could prepare yeses for a lot of things in life but parenthood is something no one could teach me or prepare me for. Its a day-by-day learning experience. Not only is my child learning new things but so am l. As a single parent I get to be the one who teaches my son how to crawl and walk. I get to teach him right and wrong and how things work. I teach him to talk and learn new words, and how to use manners. As he get older I get to teach him how to ride bikes, ride horses, play sports, swim, hunt and fish. There are some downsides to being a single parent too. When being a single parent I have to rely on family and friends a little more for help and support. I know without mine I dont know where my son and I would be. As a single parent I dont just get to think about what is best for me but now I have to think about what is best for both of us. My choose affects him more than it does me cause he relies on me to make his chooses. As a single parent I dont get to go out and party or clubbing like other people my age. I dont get to stay out late cause my late nights have now turned onto bottles and changing diapers and rocking my child to sleep. As a single parent I have to be the good guy and the bad all at the same time. I have to discipline and punish while also cuddling and chasing monsters away, which can be tricky because at times my son will use that against me and while youre doing the punishing he is giving me the puppy dog eyes. Being a single parent has its rewards and its hard times, but I wouldnt give it up for anything on earth. After my sons father left and I was on my own with a newborn, I never felt more scared in my life. I had no clue what I was doing or how I was going to make it. Even through all of this my son makes everything possible and everyday worth living. Being a single parent takes education and hard work. At the end of the day when Im rocking my son or putting him into bed and he hug and kiss me good night and tells me night-night I love you it makes it all worth it. Watching him grow up into the toddler he has become and then to still get to watch him turn into a teen future and I get to do my absolute best to make all his dreams reality.

Role of Transaction Cost in Intermediation Process Assignment
Role of Transaction Cost in Intermediation Process - Assignment Example For instance, when the bank acts as intermediary it connects individuals with different needs, financial inputs at different point of time. It allows people to save money into various accounts like savings account, time deposits, salary account, pension funds, and so on. After the bank accepts deposits from an individual it invests that sum into projects which have returns greater than or equal to the cost of investment which is also the bankââ¬â¢s liability. Now, if any corporate or individual approaches the bank for loan, the bank will charge interest on that loan. This interest will increase the transaction cost of the individual or corporate. The interest charged on loans by the bank on the borrower will obviously higher than what the bank has to pay to the depositors. This is because in order to operate in the market and serve the community it has to maintain a profit margin for all transaction which otherwise would lead to collapse of business. The advantage that an individu al or a corporate will get from an intermediation process is that the credit risk is transferred from individual borrower to the bank. This is because when a corporate raises funds from market directly without any intermediation, the credit risk of parties to transaction has to be evaluated personally. This is true in case of over-the-counter markets where the contracts are much customised according to individual requirements and parties to contract enter into agreement with each other without any intermediary. This reduces their transaction cost but also increases the credit risk. When an intermediary is introduced in the same model as in case of exchange traded funds, the transaction cost increases due to brokerage charges, maintenance fee, printing and advertising charges, commissions, and so on. The various costs are passed on to the fund raiser and hence decreasing the transaction cost of the individual from intermediation process (Buckle and Thompson, 2004, p.37). From the abo ve discussion, the role of transaction cost in the intermediation can be summarised as follows. The intermediation process aims to connect the individuals with surplus funds with individuals with deficit funds in order to channel funds properly in the economic system. In the process of intermediation the individuals and corporate is able to reduce search cost of raising funds, verification cost, monitoring cost, and credit worthiness of the parties involved in transaction. Since the intermediary provides these services, it charges a fee or commission for providing these services which increases the cost of transaction from intermediation process but such cost is much less compared to the benefit from intermediations (Mishkin and Eakins, 1998, p.369). For instance, the banks offer standardised services and products that reduce cost of transaction and the risk of investment. The OTC market mainly operates without intermediation and is hence a much more risky option. Role of Asymmetric Information in Intermediation Process In order to understand the role of asymmetric information in the intermediation process, it is important to understand the concept of asymmetric information. Asymmetric information arises from a situation when one party to transaction has more information compared to the other. This is generally

Determinants, Benefits and the Risks of Foreign Direct Investment for Assignment
Determinants, Benefits and the Risks of Foreign Direct Investment for Developing Countries - Assignment Example It is evidently clear from the discussion that for the host country, it provides new technologies, products, skills of management, capital, strengthens its currency and thus leads to economic development. However, these benefits are not realized automatically and evenly. Architecture of international investment and national policies are important in attracting FDI to many developing countries and in realization of its full benefits for development. Although FDI is beneficial to both host and home countries, it also arise some costs to them. The benefits which a host country expects rely on the co-operation of its government. In developing countries such as Kenya, FDI contributes a lot in their economic development and the governments are working extremely hard to attract it. Actually, the global market for these investments is highly competitive and countries seek them to improve their development efforts. Foreign Direct Investment is regarded to be less prone to a crisis because the direct investors usually have very long-term plans when engaging in such investments in host countries. It is also believed that FDI greatly contributes a lot to the economic growth of a host country than other types of capital inflows. Therefore, this paper seeks to critically examine the determinants, the benefits and the risks of Foreign Direct Investment in developing countries. It tends to broadly analyze the factors that attract foreign investments, the benefits that the country intends to gain from direct foreign investment and the dangers associated with these kinds of investments. Foreign direct investment determinants refer to the factors (political, economic and social factors) that can attract or deter foreign investors from investing in a particular country. Stable economy, political stability and good social status are likely to attract foreign investments. However, instability in these three areas will scare investors away.

Time Transfixed :: Essays Papers
Time Transfixed RENE MARGRITTE, TIME TRANSFIXED, 1938 Time transfixed by Rene Margritte is a surrealistic painting. By watching the painting We see a very sharp and clear painting with dark colors close to the red. The painting look so real that fools the eye and the observer has the impression that it is a computer graphic and not a real painting. The composition itââ¬â¢s ruled by straight diagonal lines. But there are some vertical lines to break the monotony and to relax our eye. Our vision goes straight to the fireplace because itââ¬â¢s the only object on white and attracts our attention. It is a strange composition. There is a fireplace and a train coming through it. Itââ¬â¢s the train that travels through the time. But why come through the fireplace? That because is surrealistic. On the top of the fireplace are two candles. The candles are not lit. But the painting is illuminated by natural light coming from the right. The candles symbolize the knowledge. In meddle of two candles is a black watch showing 1 oââ¬â¢clock. The watch symbolizes time and the mystery of time! On the back is a mirror. It reflects only the shape of the candle and the watch and nothing else. There is void space on the mirror. Thatââ¬â¢s because the mirror symbolizes the mystery of the Universe and our ignorance for the mysteries that Universe hides and the forth dimension ââ¬Å"TIMEâ⬠. By seeing the painting the observers has the impression that there is void space in the room too. The mirror and the fireplace, which looks like an empty box, give that impression. We donââ¬â¢ t know if there is void space in the room because we see only a part of it.

Ageism: Is it acceptable in today’s society?
Research would Indicate that we stereotype older people because we fear old age. We fear the loss of physical and mental ability, of attractiveness, learning power, status, and independence. We seek to distance ourselves from what we worry might be our own future when we are older and so we create what we fear. This is especially true for women. Our ageist society can greatly effect and impact negatively on a woman's self- perception as stereotypes about age is ingrained In us during youth and further enforced by society and media.This Is done through magazine ads, billboards, television. Commercials, and movies, newspapers and videos. Women are the predominant victims of age discrimination and are burdened with the negative effects. It is very common that as women age they should try to retain a youthful appearance. The biggest negative impact that women deal with is a negative body image. ââ¬Å"Body image is important to a woman's self-concept and provides a basis for her own Iden tity, for her ability to perform different activities, and for the goals she as set her for herself' (Unit 2, pig. 37). According to Tunable, et al. (pig. 743) women In our society continue to be valued for their sexual attractiveness and their physical appearance which they define as being crucial for attracting and maintaining a relationship with a male partner. A second example of how an ageist society can negatively impact a women's self-perception is from the article ââ¬Å"Ageing as a Feminist Issueâ⬠by Cherry Russell stating that ââ¬Å"old women face a host of problems which include greater poverty, higher rates of aloneness, Institutionalizing, loneliness, equidistant In work and remarriage, Ill health and metallizationâ⬠(Unit 1, pig. ). Even comparing different statistics on Stats Canada will show you that men generally do well and better in ageing. The lack of research that has been done on ageing women compared to ageing men is incomparable. Therefore to know how accurate these statistics really are is unknown considering that the fastest growing population is women and this is predicted to continue over the next many years. Unfortunately our society today supports the ageist stereotype and does not try to reflect upon any hangers to the myths that are out In society today.For example, the media continues to flash very young, beautiful women on TV and commercials promoting annotating creams, booth and fillers and they will use anyone over 60 when promoting medications or trying to sell retirement homes or medical devices depicting them as though they all need assistance. The truth is that society's view of ââ¬Å"old ageâ⬠has not kept up with the reality of older Canadians health or the fact that while many people over the age of 65 experience some physical and mental limitations, they learn to live tit them and lead happy and productive lives (Unit 2, pig. 7). Society has the tendency to lump all seniors into one demographic grou p whereas in fact, the elderly are a very diverse group. As people age they tend to get more different from one another due to the different lifetime milestones (Unit 2, pig. 28). Another example of a myth in today's society that I can relate to myself in my field of work is the myth that intelligence declines with age. Where I work doctors will perform MUSE and MOCHA intelligence with older people did have lower scores when compared to younger people, the elderly were not exposed to such tests before.Once the elderly had some training in these types of tests their scores improved and some even better than their counterparts. Lastly, my favorite example is Centenarians. There are approximately three thousand people in Canada who are 100 years old or older. The myth here that this challenges is that all older people are sick and frail. This group of people show remarkable good health and many are actually healthier then their younger generation in the ass's or ass's. Therefore in con clusion, living in a society in this day and age where ageism still exists does not make sense.There is so much information out there and help available for other stereotypes and ââ¬Å"ism'sâ⬠such as sexism and racism that in today's world with the information that we have, ageism should never exist and it should more widely discussed. Society should be more accepting of the ââ¬Ëageing self and embrace it rather than trying to reverse it. Plenty of money and time and effort are wasted on trying to change such a natural process hat it ruins people's perceptions and acceptance of other's.

The Market For Purchasing And Selling Houses Collapsed
In 2008, the market for purchasing and selling houses collapsed. Previous to 2008, speaking specifically between 2000 to 2006, many housing loan companies were offering a low interest rates, which lead to many lenders approving loan applications to individuals who had low or poor credit. When the collapse began, the once-low interest rates increased dramatically, causing many of those individuals were unable to keep up with their payments, which resulted in the foreclosure of their homes. To the extent of this dilemma, many banks went bankrupt, which lead to a number of Wall Street firms in taking a loss. It seems unethical for lenders to approve a Subprime loan, or a high-interest loan issued to individuals that have poor credit score. It is to be understood that the lender will initiate a higher interest rate to those individual(s) to protect the lender themselves in the event that a nonpayment may occur. How does that affect the individual(s)? How is it feasible for a lender to charge high interest rates to a person with low credit score? This affects the person(s) that were approved immensely. There are many different types of homebuyers and there are many reasons for individuals to have low credit scores. For the sake of this essay, the focus will be on lower income individuals that are ââ¬Å"money-smartâ⬠, who could not build credit due to the fact that they have never been able to take out a serious loan. The silver lining for the lenders is that no matter how low theShow MoreRelatedHousing Market And The Housing Crisis1272 Words à |à 6 PagesIt has been 7 years since the housing bubble burst and the financial systems collapsed back in 2008.
